Talking to Your Plants Again? It Might be Time for Real Connection! (Solution Inside)

Craving connection as a freelancer? Let's change that...

Hello fellow writer...

Last week, I hopped on a plane from London City to Amsterdam for an in-person event — a rare treat these days. [And when I say hopped, I mean hopped: it's a 45-minute jaunt (the stewards hardly have time to hand out water!)]

It was so good to see familiar faces and meet some new ones: ex-colleagues, clients, and 40 patients attending a summit on epilepsy care pathways.

These events are full-on. It's hard work, but it's fun. My favourite kind of freelancing.

Here's the one photo I took all week (that wasn't of the inside of a conference room):

And honestly?

It hit me just how much I miss that kind of connection.

Back in agency-land, it was built into my day — spontaneous chats, brainstorming sessions, even the occasional grumble over coffee (sometimes more than occasional! IYKYJK).

As a freelancer, though, that kind of connection is harder to come by. If you read my last email you'll know what I'm going to say...

You have to make it happen.

That’s why this month, my MedWrite subscriber email is focusing on mental health for freelance medical writers — and connection is right at the heart of it.

We’ll be talking about:

  • how freelancing can impact our mental health
  • how to set boundaries as health communicators, and
  • how isolation and loneliness affects freelancers (more than we often admit).

And to help, I'm offering a free, half-hour 1:1 mentoring session to ALL subscribers this coming month.

Yes, all of them. No strings attached — just a real, human conversation.

Because sometimes, the biggest step toward better mental health is simply reaching out.

👉 Sign up below to get this month's issue in your inbox on 30th April, and to claim your mentoring session.

[And just so you know, a single mentoring session is usually £150 – so this is a brilliant deal (especially if you go for an annual membership)!]

Freelancing gives us a lot — freedom, flexibility, autonomy.

But it shouldn’t take connection away.

If you've been meaning to join, now is the time.

Hope to connect with you soon,
Rachel

P.S. Even if you don't need the mentoring session, you might find this month's email a little lifeline. We all need one, sometimes.

Five things to do now...

Want to get fully booked this year – faster than ever? MEMBERSHIP PORTFOLIO MENTORING BLOG Of course you do, my fellow writer friend What’s the question you ask—or get asked—the most as a freelance medical writer? I’ll start with mine: Where do you find work? It’s such a loaded question, right? It feels impossible to answer succinctly in a LinkedIn message or a quick call. The answer has evolved throughout my 3 years as a freelancer, and I’ve been continually surprised by where work comes...

Looking back on 2024... LINKEDIN PORTFOLIO MENTORING BLOG Let me tell you a secret... Being a mum-of-two and a freelance writer makes setting boundaries hard. BUT those boundaries are even more important now that I have my boys and a freelance business. Sticking to them, though? That can be the hardest part. You know how it goes: Set a boundary. This year, I’m taking Fridays off! Break it. A new client needs me to do extra work—yay, more income! Convince yourself the boundary wasn’t that...
